The Promise Ring Reunite

Other than a one-off 2005 show, emo originators the Promise Ring havent played any shows since breaking up in 2002. That changes next year, when the band gets together to play a pair of reunion shows: 2/24 and Milwaukees Turner Hall and 2/25 at Chicagos Metro. As Punknews reports, there may be more shows on the way, and the band also plans to release a collection of rarities next summer on Dangerbird. Itll include outtakes and demos from the sessions that produced Wood/Water, the bands largely unloved final album. So maybe theyre picking up where they left off?

Nickelback Gets Muted Reaction At Lions Game

After 55,723 signatures voted to replace Nickelback’s halftime performance for Thursday’s Lions-Packers game in Detroit, the sometimes derided band still took the stage.

And, according to USA Today, it seems some in the stands didn’t really mind.

The rock band performed their new single, “When We Stand Together,” complete with fireworks and 1,000 local dancers in the background.

The paper observes that while the crowd’s reaction wasn’t overjoyed, more outcry was shown for the Lions’ pre-halftime plays than the group’s act.

Prior to Thursday’s game though, the protest on the Web was so furious that Funny or Die took the opportunity to turn the outrage into a parody.

In the online petition, Lions fans pleaded with the National Football League to rethink the halftime show, claiming that having Nickelback perform “is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. Read full artilce…

‘Chuck’ Actress Yvonne Strahovski to Play Female Lead in ‘I, Frankenstein’


“I, Frankenstein” might have found its leading lady. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yvonne Strahovski is in final talks to play the female lead, who is described as a scientist who works on “reanimating the dead and tricked into working for demons seeking to create an army of the undead.”

In addition to the “Chuck” actress, the Stuart Beattie-directed comic-adapted thriller has also attached Miranda Otto to the cast ensemble. Otto, who is famously known for playing Eowyn in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, is set to play the queen of gargoyles who intents to help Frankenstein.

“I, Frankenstein” follows Frankenstein who has evolved and learned how to control his anger.

Rhoades addresses the victims’ families, his mother, and executioners in final statement

BOISE — Paul Ezra Rhoades was confirmed dead at 9:15 a.m. Friday.

Rhoades was killed by lethal injection.

The execution was scheduled to take place at 8 a.m.  That was delayed after a motion was filed in court at 3 a.m. Friday.  It took about a half hour for the motion to be reviewed.  Shortly after that review, the Idaho Department of Corrections announced the execution would take place at 9:05 a.m., 55 minutes late.

Minn. Arboretum To Open ‘Making Spirits Bright’

CHANHASSEN, Minn. — The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum opens its annual “Making Spirits Bright” holiday celebration on Friday.

Visitors will find 12 storybook-themed decorated trees, surrounded by storytime seating, in the arboretum’s Oswald Visitor Center and Snyder Building.

The visitor center also will include a holiday kids’ shop, where children can shop for gifts for their parents. Traditional holiday teas will be held in the Snyder Building tea room, and live music will be featured in the visitor center.

Upcoming events include a holiday sale weekend Dec. 3-4, sleigh rides and pictures with Santa.

The celebration continues through Jan. 1.

From Wiz Khalifa to Action Bronson, Daly and his team have invited a diverse list of rappers and producers to the show. The latest was Lupe Fiasco, who sat down with Daly to talk growing up in Chicago, loneliness on the road, being labeled controversial, his third album (Lasers), and the Occupy Wall Street movement.
